HEMPELS GLASPRIS 2016 MARIA KOSHENKOVA
Som glasur bruger jeg ægte sølv, der giver en spejlet overflade. Det transformerer glasset over i en helt anden tilstandsform. Sølv som ædelmetal repræsenterer luksus og glans. Men dette er kun ment som en antydning, da det er påført i et meget tyndt lag. Den faktor bringer de forskellige lag til fortolkning af stykket – herunder også spørgsmålet om, hvad der giver et kunstværk værdi.
Derudover er spejlet den overflade, der reflekterer virkeligheden bedst muligt. Men når overfladen ikke er flad, forvrænger refleksionen omgivelserne snarere end at afspejle dem.
Jeg bruger sølv på samme måde som når jeg laver et maleri. Det påføres med spontane, ujævne strøg, så jeg aldrig præcist ved hvordan det vil lægge sig. Alle disse elementer: Værdi, forvrængning af virkeligheden og spontan handling, gør sølvet til den glasur, der tilfører mit arbejde en ny dimension.
