GLASS PRIZE RECIPIENT 2015
HEMPEL GLASS PRIZE RECIPIENT 2015 JEANNET ISKANDAR
“In my work, I try to unite the two opposing concepts of complexity and simplicity in one expression. Rather than applying patterns to a shape, I want to construct a shape of pattern, by building it from small elements.
Working with repetition and variations of the same basic elements and how they are fused together, I find that I am able to build unique structures that are so complex and fragmented, that the overall expression becomes calm and whole. I chose the shapes of my sculptures to be static, simple and geometrical. By doing that I allow myself to fully observe and play with the composition of the elements and what they do to the perception of the shape.”
